Academician Zeljko Reiner is the new president of the Croatian Parliament

Academician Zeljko Reiner, a professor at UZSM was chosen on Monday December 28th to be the president of the Croatian Parliament.

Present at the inaugural session of the Croatian Parliament was the  rector of University of Zagreb and the president of the Rector’s Conference of the Republic of Croatia, Damir Boras, PhD.

Academician Zeljko Reiner was born in 1953 in Zagreb where he also graduated from the School of Medicine, University of Zagreb (MD). In 1978 he obtained his Master’s degree (MS), and in 1982 his doctoral degree (PhD), both from the University of Zagreb. In 2003 he became the Head of the Division for Metabolic Diseases of the University Hospital Center Zagreb. From 2004 to 2012 he was the Director of the University Hospital Center Zagreb. From 1998 to 2000 he served as the Croatian Health Minister. From 2012 to 2015 he was vice-president of Croatian Parliament

A long serving member of the University Council, advisory and supervisory body of the university who made significant contributions to the strategic decision making of University of Zagreb. Zeljko Reiner as a representative of the Croatian Parliament actively advocated the autonomy of universities and furthering the separation of Croatian higher learning and research.
